The South Senators edged out the Northeast Flyers by a final score of 5-4 to capture the 2009 Alberta Cup. The Flyers tied the game 4-4 at the 7:23 mark of the 3rd period before Levi Bews of the Senators notched his fourth of the tournament which would eventually be the game winner. “We were very impressed with all the talent not only from the teams playing in the championship game but from all eight zone teams.,” said Justin Fesyk, Coordinator, Team Alberta Male Programs. “Many of the players have bright futures in the game and it will be exciting to watch them develop through the Team Alberta Program. All week, teams played in front of capacity crowds at the Don Hartman NE Sportsplex in Calgary. Over 150 scouts from the WHL and numerous other Junior A leagues attended the tournament throughout the week. “On behalf of Hockey Alberta I would like to thank Hockey Calgary, the host committee, and all the staff, volunteers, trainers, coaches, officials and athletes for their hard work and dedication making the 2009 Alberta Cup a great success,” said Darcy Prezanowski, Alberta Cup Provincial Coordinator. 80 players will now be selected to tryout at the Team Alberta U16 Provincial Camp in July.
