Hockey Alberta is pleased to announce the top 32 players selected to the Team Pacific short list roster. These 32 players will be scouted with their club teams until October when the top 11 will be selected to Team Pacific and compete in the World U17 Hockey Challenge in Timmins, Ontario, December 29 – January 4, 2010.
“We are very impressed with the caliber of players looking to earn a spot on Team Pacific. Moving forward, we feel the 32 players identified by our scouting staff have the best chance of making the team and leading Team Pacific to success in Timmins,” said Justin Fesyk, coordinator, Team Alberta Male. The World U17 Hockey Challenge is the pinnacle event for an athlete in the provincial Team Alberta Program and is the first stage of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence which in turn leads to the National Team Canada U18 and U20 Programs. Team Pacific combines the top 11 players from Alberta (identified, selected and developed through the Team Alberta Program) and the top 11 players from British Columbia, who compete against four other Canadian Teams (West, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic) and five other national teams from the USA, Slovakia, Germany, Czech Republic and Finland.
The Team Alberta Program prepares athletes for this prestigious international event by preparing and exposing them to short term competition throughout the Team Alberta process. This development progression has lead to a tradition of excellence and Team Pacific being a force to contend with year after year.
