For most, it will be the closest they’ll ever get to Olympic competition.
So you can bet when some of Edmonton’s top Midget hockey players take to the ice against the Canadian women’s hockey team there will be a lot of pride on the line.
As part of their preparation for the Vancouver 2010 Games, which run from Feb. 12-28, the Canadian women’s Olympic team will hit the ice against four of the Alberta Midget Hockey League’s top northern squads.
On Oct. 19, the KC Pats will take on the defending gold medalist squad at 7:45 p.m. at the Clareview Arena.
On Nov. 19, the Southside Boston Pizza Athletics will host Canada at 7:30 p.m. at Confederation Arena.
The final two games of the series will both take place at Clareview Arena at 7:45 p.m. January 13 will feature the Canadian Athletic Club and Jan. 22 will be the Maple Leafs.
The Canadian team will also take on four of the AMHL’s South Division squads in preparation for the Games.
The Canadian Women’s Olympic Team features players such as Hayley Wickenheiser, Meaghan Mikkelsen and Shannon Szabados.
