PROMOTING SKILL DEVELOPMENT In its continuing effort to promote skill development, Hockey Calgary was involved with hosting a pair of clinics Jan. 6.
Hockey Canada, in partnership with Hockey Alberta, Hockey Calgary and Girls Hockey Calgary, hosted an Esso Fun Day for Youth and Adults at East Calgary Twin Arenas.?Participants learned the basic skills and rules of hockey in a fun, non-threatening environment. Each participant also received a jersey, water bottle and a ticket to one of Team Canada’s games at the 2008 U18 World Women’s Championship at Father David Bauer Arena Jan. 7-12.
Also on Jan. 6, Hockey Calgary administered a Skating Specialty Clinic for 25 Atom Players at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
The session was based on a variety of the drills administered to coaches through Hockey Canada’s Specialty Clinics. The one-hour session consisted of edge work, proper skating technique, balance and posture.

The event, which is billed as the largest minor hockey tournament in the world, promises to feature a host of exciting games with finals slated for the weekend of Feb. 1-2 at arenas throughout the city.
DINOS HOST MINOR HOCKEY WEEKEND The Calgary Dinos men’s hockey are extending an invitation to minor hockey teams to come out and watch the Dinos take on the University of Alberta Golden Bears on Friday, Jan. 18 and Saturday, Jan. 19.
The games are at 7 p.m. both days at Father David Bauer Arena.?This weekend has been designated as Minor Hockey Weekend and all pre-registered minor teams who come to Father David Bauer Arena in their team jerseys will receive free admission to the games. Two coaches can also attend free of charge. Teams have the opportunity to meet players, get autographs, and win Dinos giveaways all while seeing some great hockey up close.
