BENN SCORES THREE IN CANADA VICTORY -- Kelowna Rockets sniper Jamie Benn scored three goals and added two assists and was named the Player of the Game as Canada coasted to a 15-0 win over Kazakhstan in round robin action on Sunday, December 28th, at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa, ON.
Medicine Hat Tigers’ Tyler Ennis (1g, 2a), Regina’s Jordan Eberle (1g, 1a), Vancouver Giants’ Evander Kane (1g, 1a) and Seattle Thunderbirds’ Thomas Hickey (2a) were all among WHL players with multiple-point efforts in the contest, while Kelowna’s Tyler Myers also scored for Canada.
The win improves Canada to 2-0 in round robin play at the tournament. Canada is aiming for a fifth consecutive Gold medal at the World Junior Championship.
Tri-City Americans goaltender Chet Pickard stopped all 11 shots he faced to record a shutout. Kazakhstan netminders Andrei Yankov and Maxim Gryaznov combined for 54 saves in the loss.
John Tavares, Cody Hodgson and P.K Subban each tallied a pair of goals for Canada, who converted seven power play opportunities in the contest, while Chris Di Domenico and Stefan Della Rovere also counted in the lopsided victory.
