CALGARY, AB - The Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League (AMBHL), in partnership with the host association, the Calgary Royals Athletic Association (CRAA), are honored and pleased to announce the 19th Annual AMBHL All Star Weekend will be held in Calgary on January 9th and 10th, 2009. The Western Hockey League (WHL) is the Official Sponsor of the event. Lead corporate sponsors include the Calgary Herald, Professional Skate Services, the Calgary Hitmen, I M Works, Husky Energy, National Sport Development, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Penny Lane Entertainment.
Festivities for the event begin on January 9th, 2009 with official team practices at Father David Bauer Arena with the Official All Star Game being played on January 10th, 2009 at the arena at SAIT between 1 – 4 pm. The AMBHL All Star Game is played between two teams, made up from players representing each of the 22 teams located throughout Alberta.
Last season, 13 of the first 22 players drafted into the Western Hockey League were drafted directly from the AMBHL. The 2009 All Star Weekend will showcase some of the top, elite young bantam aged hockey players in Canada.
Each AMBHL franchise, in association with the Calgary Hitmen, Hockey Calgary and Hockey Alberta has sponsored a minor hockey team from southern Alberta to attend the game.
