Hockey Now’s resident ranter offers his thoughts on all things hockey.
Enjoy the humble musings of a man who once played four hockey games in four difference cities in a nine-hour span...
1. Do you believe in the Olympic hangover? No chance. these guys are lean mean machines. If they win or medal, they are pumped for Stanley, if they lose or underachieve they are more motivated than ever.
2. Will the NHL be in Sochi, Russia in 2014? Yes, full stop.
3. Which NHL team will surprise by missing the playoffs? It is so tight, but there is a real chance Detroit, Anaheim and the Rangers could miss and those would be big surprises with L.A., Colorado, Phoenix, Ottawa, and Montreal in.
4. Who is Canada’s best Stanley Cup hope? Gut reaction says Vancouver, but I think Ottawa has quietly had a real turnaround year and they play in a weak division. Calgary made wholesale changes and a few games in, looked deeper and looser; but I will still say Vancouver...cringe.
5. Who is your early pick to win the draft lottery and potentially pick Taylor Hall? I will go off the chart here and say the Islanders. Edmonton and a few others are worse, but the fact that the worst team rarely wins the lottery and that the New York Islanders are poised for a late season slide, things could align. Would be sweet to see Tavares, Hall, Okposo, Bailey form a turnaround core for this team.
