New expert tips every week, special deals that will save you money on hockey gear, contests, and NHL® skills videos – all benefits that you’ll enjoy when you sign up as a member of the Canadian Tire Hockey School.
Since launching last summer in parallel with a new five year deal as a NHL® partner, Canada’s biggest retail giant has been energetically developing its online hockey school to be an important resource for Canadian hockey fans, players, parents and coaches.
The company has long recognized the central place that hockey occupies in the Canadian psyche, says Cindy Graham, Manager, Strategic Marketing for Canadian Tire who is leading the project.
The new catch phrase, Long Live HockeyTM underlines the approach the company is taking with the Canadian Tire Hockey school.
To head up the project, the company has signed Jonathan Toews, the young captain of the 2010 Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks and a key leader on Canada’s 2010 Olympic gold medal winning hockey team.
Videos of Toews on the site show him taping sticks, talking about his favourite shot (wrist) and about his early days as a kid whose first skates came from Canadian Tire.
There’s even going to be a way for parents to interact with a fuller Toews experience, as plans for the future include ways of sharing Jonathan’s mom’s experiences and views with members.
The company’s NHL® sponsorship delivers access to a series of skills videos by NHL® players, coaches and alumni such as Harry Neal, Matthew Barnaby and Mike Peca – great resources for coaches, players and parents alike.
Members will also be able to view some unique behind the scenes NHL® action, including Toews during the NHL® All Star weekend.
Several new regular features are being added this spring, which will permit members to connect with these experts and others in related fields such as nutrition and minor hockey development.
Coming soon, a new social networking component, including a Canadian Tire Facebook site later this spring.
But the experience is not all virtual. There’s also an opportunity for members to participate in a series of on ice Skill Camps with these NHL experts.
