Hockey Alberta is expanding! The newest addition to the network is the Hockey Alberta South Regional Centre. The centre officially opened in late spring and is intended to provide the southern part of the province with development resources and opportunities. Charged with heading up the new Regional Centre is Troy Muspratt.
“I’m really excited to continue building a strong relationship with the local hockey community,” said Regional Centre South Coordinator, Troy Muspratt. “Minor hockey associations are encouraged to access the Hockey Alberta development programming we offer though the Regional Centre and I hope to work closely with our membership in zone 1 to create the best hockey experience possible for both our players and coaches.”
Muspratt is not a stranger to the Alberta hockey scene. The Calgary native played his minor hockey for the Northwest Calgary Athletic Association where he made an appearance in the 1999 Air Canada Cup final representing the Calgary Midget AAA Flames. Muspratt then went on to play two years for the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League before heading south to play NCAA division 3 hockey for Lake Forest. Recently, Muspratt earned his Master’s Degree in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco.
Hockey Alberta opened its first Regional Centre in Grande Prairie back in 2007. Since then, it has become an integral part of the zone 1 hockey community. Hockey Alberta recently hired Dave Brown as the new Regional Centre North Coordinator.
Brown joins the Hockey Alberta team with a wealth of hockey experience. Originally from East York, Ontario, Brown played in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Brampton Battalion, Canadian University Sport (CIS) with Wilfrid Laurier University and in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) with the Rochester Knighthawks. Brown is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier with a BA in Communications, minor in Business and he also has a certificate in Sports Management from Durham College. Brown has worked with the Ontario Hockey Federation and most recently Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment for the Toronto Marlies (AHL).
“I want to ensure that everyone who plays within Hockey Alberta comes away with a positive experience and is given every possible opportunity as they build a lifelong love for hockey,” said Brown.
“The idea of the Regional Centres is to provide hands on access to the community when it comes to player and coach development,” said Hockey Alberta’s Manager of Development, Barb Marsh. “We are very fortunate to have both Troy and Dave working at our Regional Centres and I hope the two regions really take advantage of their services.”
