The Atom 4 on 4 Festivals presented by Source For Sports are set to go on select days this November and December. Hockey Alberta will support nine host locations as over 1,400 Atom aged players (9 and 10 year olds) will return to hockey’s roots, playing the game in its purest form, shinny hockey style.
The premise of this program is to provide the kids the chance to play in a fun, non-competitive environment as well as meet other kids from across their respective hockey zones. Scores are not kept; there are no whistles and no stoppages in play. The ice is divided into two sections to allow for two games at one time. Participants will all receive a jersey along with various other gifts for participating.
“Based on last year’s success, this event will surely be a big hit with the kids and the parents. It’s a lot of fun for everyone involved. The kids get the opportunity to just get out there and play the game as well as meet new friends in a fun atmosphere,” said John Erkelens, Hockey Alberta’s Minor Council Chair.
Hockey Alberta utilizes this event to provide the host Minor Hockey Association with various tools and information to ensure that the Association can provide its young hockey players with a positive experience in hockey.
This year’s Atom 4 on 4 Festivals are being held in Athabasca, Beaverlodge, Calgary, Cold Lake, Edmonton, Fort MacLeod, Manning, Olds, and Wetaskiwin. The first of the Atom 4 on 4 Festivals kicked off Saturday Nov. 1 in Beaverlodge, Manning, Cold Lake, Olds and Wetaskiwin. Edmonton’s event was held on Sunday Nov. 2. In total, over 900 participants took part in the first six of the nine festivals with nothing but positive feedback from everyone involved.
Calgary and Athabasca are set to host their Atom 4 on 4 Festivals Saturday Nov. 8 and Fort MacLeod is gearing up for Sunday Dec. 21.
