Hockey Alberta is pleased to announce the official Grand Opening and celebration of its first Regional Leadership Development Centre (RLDC) in Grande Prairie this Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009.
As a direct division of Hockey Alberta the Regional Centre carries the same vision and goals as the head office in Red Deer, AB; However it is designed as a first contact for members in North West Alberta, in all areas of hockey development which may not have been accessible or even available in years prior.
The Hockey Alberta RLDC started on Jan. 3, 2006, with only one employee utilizing a temporary space provided within the Grande Prairie Minor Hockey office. It has now expanded on its own, and has acquired its own space in the Coca Cola Centre.
The Grand Opening events will be held at the Coca Cola Centre, located at 6 knowledge Way in Grande Priarie, AB. From 2 p.m. to 3:25 p.m. a President’s Forum will take place hosted by Terry Ledingham, Hockey Alberta President and Rob Litwinski, Hockey Alberta General Manager. Following the forum will be a Reception from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the official opening of the RLDC taking place at 4:25 p.m.
Incorporated into the days events will be a novice jamboree, coaching seminar and a silent auction with a number of items including a signed Sidney Crosby jersey, Sheldon Souray sutographed jersey, Glenn Anderson signed print and many other items.
As part of the days festivities the Grande Prairie Storm will be host to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, with the puck drop at 7:30 p.m. The silent auction will be set up around the foyer and will remain throughout the duration of the game. During the second intermission there will also be a Frisbee toss. Frisbee’s will be available to purchase for $5.00 in the foyer, with all proceeds going to the RLDC. The Frisbee toss winner will take home a grand prize of a pair of tickets to the Saturday Feb. 21 Flames vs Oliers game, two vintage Oilers jerseys, one nights accomodation at the Westin Edmonton, two Oilers hats signed by Grant Fuhr and a few other surprises.
