Forward Adam Johnson headlines the names that will play in the 2008 Rural Alberta Midget Hockey League All-Star Game.
The Camrose Kodiak, who will captain Team South, has 56 points through 23 games this year putting him in the league lead by 17 over teammate Jordan Jacobsen.
Jacobsen will be joining his teammate however at this year’s game at the Canada Games Arena in Grand Prairie.
Leading the way for Team North will be North East B.C./Yukon Flyer Steven Fast, who will captain the squad, and Fort McMurray Baron Corey Allan, who’s third in league scoring with 37 points through 26 games.
The game is being held as part of the AJHL’s All-Star Weekend as the RAMHL is a league where many AJHL players come from.
“I think it’s always important to have a relationship with the leagues that serve your leagues by the way of providing players for the future. I think it has to be a relationship that is harmonious,” said AJHL President Craig Cripps.
With both All-Star games in one place it’s an excellent opportunity for the RAMHL players to get noticed.
“It’ll be heavily scouted, very heavily scouted,” said Cripps. “Most of the (AJHL) teams will have coaches there and some teams will send their scouts.”
But it isn’t the only opportunity for RAMHL players to make an impression on AJHL teams.
“A lot of our teams (are in the same cities) as AJHL teams,” said RAMHL League Governor Doug Petruck. “Also a lot of the midget team names are the same as the junior team names and their part of the same organizations. So were a bit of a mini farm club team.”
Besides AJHL scouts Petruck anticipates some college scouts might wander over as many will be there for the AJHL game.
“A lot of them will come in and take this other one on because it’s kids of the future possibly.” |
