As any good lumberjack will tell you, solid footing is imperative to success and the logjam that has developed atop the Atom Canadians Division is sure to prove that.
The top Atom division in the Edmonton Minor Hockey Association’s Federation league has been as competitive as ever so far this year, with two points separating six teams jockeying for first place.
At press time, the Northeast Eagles were locked in a three-way tie for first with the St. Albert AA Lightning and the Whitemud West Wolfpack, who all had nine points.
Trailing close behind were the second squad from Whitemud West, coached by Dallas Wolansky, and the SWAT Blades, who both had managed eight points in six games.
One point further back was coach Kevin Shukaluk’s Confederation squad, which has shown an affinity for winning tight games, evident in its 17 goals for and 15 goals against through six games.
“There are a lot of good hockey teams in this division and we’re trying to teach our kids what they need to do to be successful,” said Wolfpack head coach Al Prokop. “But at the end of the day they’re nine- and 10-years-old and really, all they want to do is have fun, so that’s what we’re most worried about.”
The first of three rounds of the Federation Hockey season winds up on Nov. 22. |
