Kamloops, B.C. -- Kamloops Blazers Vice President and General Manager, Craig Bonner, announced today that the balance of the coaching staff is now in place.
Barry Smith, who was recently named Head Coach on July 3, has selected his bench partners. Scott Ferguson and Geoff Smith will be the team’s new Assistant Coaches, and Steve Passmore will return as the Club’s Goaltending Coach.
“I am excited with these links to the Blazers’ past,” said Barry Smith. “We have experience at all levels of hockey, and I believe we will blend well as a coaching staff.”
Ferguson, 35, a native of Camrose, AB and a former Blazers player who appeared in two Memorial Cups (’92 & ’94), played 218 games in the NHL between Edmonton, Anaheim and Minnesota.
Geoff Smith, 39, played briefly for the Blazers in the ’88-‘89 season and is a successful local businessman. Born in Edmonton, he won a Stanley Cup with the Oilers in the ‘89-‘90 campaign. He played 462 games in the NHL with Edmonton, Florida and the New York Rangers.
Passmore, 35, also a member of the victorious ’94 Memorial Cup Blazers team, is a local businessman as well as an assistant coach with the Kamloops Storm of the KIJHL.
“We are excited to add Scott and Geoff to our staff and happy that Steve will be back this season,” said Bonner, adding that, “they bring a strong work ethic and winning tradition back to the team.”
“These gentlemen are quality individuals with strong loyalties to the organization. I believe we now have the right people in place to start a new winning tradition,” added Bonner.
