Swift Current, SK -- Swift Current Broncos Head Coach and General Manager Dean Chynoweth along with many friends and family members head to Toronto this Saturday to celebrate the induction of his father Ed Chynoweth into the prestigious Hockey Hall of Fame.
The weekend is busy for the entire Chynoweth family as Ed will be honoured during an on ice ceremony prior to the Annual Hockey Hall of Fame Game Saturday Night between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. Dean will play in the Legends of Hockey Game on Sunday afternoon at the Air Canada Centre at 2:00PM. On Monday, November 10th, the 2008 Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place where Dean’s brother Jeff, the General Manager of the Kootenay Ice, will make the induction speech on behalf of their late father Ed. The telecast of the induction ceremony will take place live on the NHL Network at 6:30PM Central time and be re-broadcast on TSN at 11:30PM Central time.
Dean says “it’s a proud moment for our family and an opportunity for us to reflect on dad’s contributions to major junior hockey and the hockey world in general. The Canadian Hockey League along with the Western Hockey League and Bill Hay, have been so supportive and generous to our family throughout the past year.”
Ed Chynoweth was the long-time commissioner of the Western Hockey League and a pioneer of Junior Hockey in Canada. The WHL has honored Ed by dedicating the 2008-2009 season to him and renaming the WHL Championship trophy the Ed Chynoweth Cup. Ed will be inducted alongside Glenn Anderson, Igor Larionov and Ray Scapinello.
Dean will miss Sunday’s Broncos game against Regina but will return for Tuesday’s game against Calgary. Tim Kehler will be the head coach of the Broncos against the Pats. |
