GIANTS ADVANCE AFTER GAME SEVEN SHUTOUT VICTORY – Nick Ross scored 1:56 into overtime to lift the Vancouver Giants to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Spokane Chiefs in Game 7 of their Kal Tire WHL Western Conference semi-final series on Tuesday, April 14th. With the Game 7 victory, the Giants win the best-of-seven series four games to three and move on to the Kal Tire WHL Western Conference Championship series. Tyson Sexsmith made 29 saves to record his first shutout of the 2009 WHL Playoffs for the Giants, who win their second straight overtime decision of the series versus the Chiefs. The Giants will be making their third appearance in the WHL Western Conference Championship series in the last four seasons. Dustin Tokarski turned aside 41 of 42 shots in a losing cause for the Chiefs, who went 0-for-3 on the power play in the contest. The loss eliminates the defending WHL and Memorial Cup champions from the playoffs. The Giants will now face the Kelowna Rockets in the Kal Tire WHL Western Conference Championship series. Vancouver wins best-of-seven series 4-3. |
