Rimouski, QC – The Kelowna Rockets spent their first full day in Rimouski at the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup getting use to their surroundings and hitting the ice at the Colisee de Rimouski for their first practice. Following their 75 minute ice session all players were required to get their head shot with the official broadcaster of the tournament Rogers Sportsnet, then get their fingers sized up for rings should they get the opportunity to hoist the Memorial Cup next Sunday (a process all four Clubs must adhere to).
The Club then headed back to their home for close to two weeks, The Hotel Gouverneurs, while Head Coach Ryan Huska stayed behind at the Colisee for the annual Head Coaches press conference. The Rockets, along with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, Rimouski Oceanic and Windsor Spitfires, will attend the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup Opening Banquet at the Hotel Rimouski this evening with Head Coach Ryan Huska and Captain Colin Long participating in a ‘Hot Stove Lounge’ style interview with all the other Head Coaches and Captains as well. Looking ahead to Kelowna’s first game day on Friday, May 15th, they will hit the ice for a pre-game skate at the Colisee de Rimouski at 11:15am ET for 45 minutes in preparation for the tournaments opening game against the host Rimouski Oceanic at 7:00pm ET.
