Brandon, MB -- Brandon Wheat Kings General Manager and Head Coach Kelly McCrimmon announced the acquisition of 19-year old goalkeeper Jacob De Serres from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for 17-year old forward Brendan Rouse.
A 6'2“ 180 lb Calgary product, De Serres is in his fourth season in the WHL, having played a total of 92 games. A third round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft, De Serres had appeared in three of Seattle's games this season.
During the 2008-09 campaign, the former third round bantam draft pick compiled a 3.41 goals against average and an 11-16-0 record in 32 appearances.
A former fifth round pick of the Wheat Kings in the 2007 bantam draft, Rouse had two assists in six games this season.
“The acquisition of Jacob De Serres gives us another proven goaltender,“ says McCrimmon. “While encouraged with Andrew Hayes' strong start, this gives us the type of depth we feel we need to be a contending team. We are sorry to lose Brendan Rouse, he is a good young player that will have a real solid career in Seattle.“

T-BIRDS ACQUIRE CENTER BRENDAN ROUSE FROM BRANDON T-Birds send goalie Jacob DeSerres to Wheat Kings
Kent, October 15, 2009 - Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced the team has acquired center Brendan Rouse from the Brandon Wheat Kings in exchange for goalie Jacob DeSerres.
"With Pickard here in place as our starter, this is the best move to give Jake an opportunity to play," said Farwell "Brandon will be hosting the Memorial Cup this season and this could be a great chance for Jake to highlight his abilities in net. We wish Jake the best of luck in Brandon."
"We wanted to be sure we were adding a player to our team right now," continued Farwell. "Brendan is a hard-working young player who will help us today and fits with the young group we have maturing together for the future."
Rouse is a 17-year-old center from Langley, British Columbia, who has appeared in six games with the Wheat Kings this season. He has two points, both on assists. Rouse, in his first season in the WHL, was a fifth round selection, 110th overall, in the 2007 Bantam Draft by the Wheat Kings.
This season DeSerres has appeared in three games with the T-Birds and has a 0-3-0-0 record with a 5.00 goals against average and a .851 save percentage.
Entering this season, DeSerres has a three-year T- Birds career record of 41-26-0-3 with a goals against average of 2.70 and save percentage of .908. DeSerres has seven career shutouts with the T-Birds.
The T-Birds travel to Everett to face the Silvertips on Friday, October 16, at 7:35 p.m. They are back home at ShoWare Center on Saturday, October 17, to take on the Prince George Cougars at 7:05 p.m.
